Original antique set of five icons : Life of the Tikhvin icon of the Mother of God

 

An amazing and extremely rare set of five Russian icons.  Most likely these are taken from a larger icon of the Mother of God "Tikhvin" with vita, and have been reset into newer panels.  The original icons are most likely 18th century (potentially earlier), while the panels into which they have been placed are later (c.1880-1910).  

All scenes illustrate important events in throughout the history of of the icon of the Mother of God "Tikhvinskaya"

Once cannot stress how rare and unique these icons are.  An amazing set for a collector, for private or church devotion, and, of course, for any parish with a special veneration for the Mother of God "Tikhvin"
