Holy Moscow "Third Rome" Orthodox Icon
A very interesting Russian icon based off of the "third Rome" concept. In this idea, the Christian Empire was transferred to Constantinople from Rome in the year 325 after Constantine made this city the new capital of the Roman Empire. Moscow is consider the "third Rome" (although never officially called so) once the previous capital of the Christian empire was lost to the Ottoman invaders. "Third Rome" was unofficially adopted as a title due to the flowering of Orthodoxy in Russia.
