Mother of God "Burning Bush with Twelve Great Feasts"
This icon is based on the Old Testament miracle in which Moses witnessed the burning bush. In this miracle the bush was burning, yet not consumed and it is from this that the Orthodox church sees a typology of the Mother of God. This idea follows in that the Mother of God gave birth to the Savior, yet remained a virgin. The diamonds in this icon are pictured as red and green, red representing the fire and green the bush.
This very rare depiction is outlined in the Twelve Great Feasts.
