Mother of God "Azov" Orthodox Icon
This rare icon of the Mother of God pictures a double headed eagle which frames the image of the Theotokos itself. This representation is very unusual in the iconographic tradition and is meant to illustrate the blessing of the Mother of God on the Russian Empire. There is also some indication that this theme follows along the ideology of the "Third Rome" concept and was meant to portray that the power of God was the the most important blessing in the Russian Empire.
