The Holy Trinity or The Hospitality of Abraham Orthodox Icon

The first depiction of this icon was painted by the famed Russian iconographer St. Andre Rublev in the 15th century. This theme is a symbolic representation of the Holy Trinity taken from the Old Testament event of the angles appearing to Abraham at Mamre. On the left is the angel representing God the Father and behind this angel is painted a house, calling to mind, "In My Father's house are many mansions" John 14:2. The center angel represents God the Son, with a tree in remembrance of the Holy Cross. The angel on the far right is a representation of the Holy Spirit. Behind this angel are mountains which represent the wilderness, calling to mind the New Testament text, "At once the Spirit sent Him out into the wilderness..." Mark 1:2. This icon is, by far, one of the most popular iconographic themes in Holy Orthodoxy.
