Original antique Festal Icon with Additional Subjects
This Festal Icon was painted towards the end of the 19th century. There has been no restoration to the artwork aside of cleaning. The gold is still in great shape and the figures remain intact, overall presenting this icon to be in good condition. The Feasts and subjects are as follows:
Outside perimeter, clockwise, beginning in top left corner:
Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos, Entry of the Mother of God into the Temple, Annunciation, Nativity of the Savior, Theophany, Transfiguration, Raising of Lazarus, Dormition, Exaltation of the Holy Cross, Holy Trinity, Selected Saints, Ascension, Behaading of the Forerunner, Entry into Jerusalem
Inside (containg the events from Passion Week), clockwise, beginning in top left corner:
Christ wasing the disciples feet, Mystical Supper, Garden of Garden of Gethsemane, Betyral of Judas, Christ before the Jews, Mocking of the Savior, The Entombment, The taking down from the Cross, The Crucifixion, The Carrying of the Cross, The scourging at the pillar, The Savior before Pilate
The center contains the icon of the Resurrection
The overall icon is quite large and would serve as a very beautiful center peice for any icon corner or would also be honored as a treasure at any parish.
